DIY Fashion Leg Warmers

DIY Fashion – It’s almost that time of year again :3

Hey  everyone my favorite time of the year is coming around, and that means lots and lots of layers! So to start off my first DIY fashion project to prepare for cuddle weather I decided to create some leg warmers and a matching beanie out of an ugly sweater that was given to me. You can pretty much use any old sweater you have laying around or go thrift shopping for some cheap finds.  Its amazing how you can create matching items of clothing from an old unused garment, so i hope this sparks some ideas for all you DIYers.

DIY Fashion Project

To begin your project grab your favorite fitting legwarmers and flip the sweater right side in. Place the leg warmers along the fold at the bottom the sweater. Were going to use the fold and bottom hem to our advantage.

Now use your fabric chalk to trace an outline of your leg warmers, then cut out the piece of fabric and be sure to leave room for seam allowance. Pin down the cut side of the fabric opposite of the fold.

2 150x150 DIY Fashion Leg Warmers

Sew along the edge, don’t forget to back stitch both ends! And to finish it all up you going to want to hem up the end opposite if the bottom.

Flip them both inside out and your DIY Fashion leg warmers are now complete for fall and winter.

DIY Fashion Tips

That’s it, its as simple as that. Some things you could do to dress it up would be to add matching bows to the sides of both leg warmers. I made a matching beanie (witch ill be making a post about shortly) that i think came out really well for my first try.

Hope this gave you some ideas.

Cute DIY Bow

Cute DIY Step-By-Step

Hey you DIY fashion creators, here’s my step-by-step on making a cute DIY bow I had promised to put up.  So I decided I wanted to make a a huge bow for my hair to match a skirt that I had previously created. The leftover fabric I had used was on the slightly softer side, but you can use something similar or a heavier set fabric.

Let’s Start Off your DIY Bow

Start off by tracing out a rectangle on the fold of your fabric you’ve slected to the size you would like your bow to be. Cut out your fabric into two pieces leaving room for seam allowance.

1 300x225 Cute DIY Bow

Place the two pieces of fabric right side together and insert the two pieces of lace along the side edges. Pin together to hold in place and to give you that clean finish.

2 300x225 Cute DIY Bow

Straight seam together every edge but leave about a one inch opening to flip the bow back to right sides out.

Now your going to flip it inside out using the hole you left open and hand stitch the hole close to complete the main part of the bow.

51 300x225 Cute DIY Bow

We now need to create the center part for the bow to tie it all together and finish up your DIY Fashion project. So to do that your going to want to cut out a smaller rectangle and fold it right side in, sewing together the lose ends. Once again flip inside out the fabric to have your right sides showing.

Finally you sew the two ends together to form it into a ring. Bunch up the main part of the bow to slide it into the ring while creasing it how you want for a certain style and feel. Hand sew the two pieces together in the back.

DIY Tips

There you have it, Your DIY Fashion bow should now be complete. play around with different styles and get creative. You could leave out the lace or add two different types of fabric. Happy sewing! icon smile Cute DIY Bow

I wish I lived in LA because I’m just not finding the type of fabric I want to experiment with around here. I’ve been going to my local fabric store quite a bit but i cant seen to find much stretchy fabric with cute designs on it. I’ve heard about a shop in Old Town that sell Kimono type fabric so I’m planning a trip up there some time soon.

So Glad I Got Into DIY

DIY Fashion – Summertime Shorts

8 Sep

Cute DIY Fashion Shorts

Its been so hot The last few days so i decided to make some shorts to keep me cool in this summer heat. I’ve been really liking floral type fabrics for my DIY fashion projects lately so i already had the perfect one in mind. I wanted to try a different type of pocket style but it came out a little small, so add a few inches if you like them a bit bigger.

Starting Off Your DIY Fashion Shorts

To begin your shorts, grab a pair of your favorite fitting shorts. On the fabric fold trace the out line . Trace a second outline and add another inch to to one side of the crotch.

003851 225x300 DIY Fashion Summertime Shorts

Leaving an extra two to three inches at the bottom of the shorts for the cuff, cut out your two pieces. Now cut along the fold and you’ll end up with four pieces looking like this.

000316 300x225 DIY Fashion Summertime Shorts

Now for your DIY Fashion shorts take your two front pieces and cut out two parts to create the first step to your pockets. You can do this by eye or copy your favorite shorts.

3 300x225 DIY Fashion Summertime Shorts

I then made a template for the pockets. You’ll need to create four pieces from your template.

4 300x225 DIY Fashion Summertime Shorts

For the front two pieces your going to need cut out two parts matching the fabric for the front of your DIY Fashion shorts.

5 300x225 DIY Fashion Summertime Shorts6 300x225 DIY Fashion Summertime Shorts

Now sew the curved parts together, then the remaining edges to the backing parts.

Your pockets should take shape so lets move on to finishing up the rest.

10 225x300 DIY Fashion Summertime Shorts

Now take the front pieces to your shorts and face them right sides together, use your pins to pin it into place. sew along the curve for a clean finish . Repeat with the backside to end up with something like this.

Along the crotch with right sides together, pin then sew a straight line across with a zigzag stitch. Do the same for the sides and be sure to include the side of the pocket with your stitch to hold it in place.

13 300x225 DIY Fashion Summertime Shorts

Flip the right sides out. Add a cuff at the bottom of the shorts (witch will be explained in a later post) or just double hem it for a clean finish. Now to finish up the summertime shorts i needed to add a waist band. For this your going to need to flip it right side in and fold over your seam allowance  Just enough to fit your elastic all the way around. Pin and sew leaving about and inch and a half to slide the elastic around.

Sew in the Gap and your Cute DIY Fashion summertime shorts should be complete. icon smile DIY Fashion Summertime Shorts

More DIY Fashion Tips

You could always add your own special touch to these shorts. Some ideas would be to add a big cute bow on the top back of the shorts. Adding lace along the bottom hem of the shorts can change the look of your outfit. Play around with your ideas and create something that fits you. Happy sewing.

DIY Fashion – Cute Dress With Circle Skirt

2 Sep

Cute DIY Fashion Circle Skirt

So we stopped off at the fabric store while waiting for my tire to get changed. We found some good fabrics that gave us some ideas for future Diy Fashion projects. My girlfriend  has been wanting to make a circle skirt dress to end off summer with something a little more flowy. So she decided on a floral brown and white fabric that had caught our eyes.

DIY Fashion – Skirt

So to Start off the skirt i selected a fabric with a little bit of give, because i wanted a more fitted outfit. Now your going to want to fold your fabric in half and lay it down.

223853 300x225 DIY Fashion Cute Dress With Circle Skirt

Measure out how long you want the DIY Fashion skirt to be and add about 2 1/2 inches for the waist. Draw out a half circle on the fold with the length of the skirt you want as the radius. Pin down in a few places to secure it in place.

222857 300x225 DIY Fashion Cute Dress With Circle Skirt

Use you fabric scissors to cut out your circle leaving about a half an inch of seam allowance. Open your fabric up and your DIY fashion skirt should like this.

223118 300x225 DIY Fashion Cute Dress With Circle Skirt

To create the opening for the waist measure out about 5 inch diameter circle from the center of the fabric. Mark it off with some fabric chalk and cut along your marking, ending up with something like this.

224020 300x225 DIY Fashion Cute Dress With Circle Skirt

Hem up the edges on the outer part of the fabric to prevent from fraying and give the bottom of the skirt a nice, clean finish. Be sure to pin around your fabric to ensure your hem to be an even size around your flowy DIY fashion skirt. Set this fabric aside and let move on to the top of the dress.

 DIY Fashion – Top

I forgot to take some picture for the top so bare with me, ill do my best to describe it with out them. So to begin this your going to need to trace out one of your favorite fitting tank tops onto the fabric ending it at your waist line. You can either pin off the line or do it by eye. Cut along the marking, once again leaving an extra inch or so of seam allowance.

015845 300x225 DIY Fashion Cute Dress With Circle Skirt

Next place the two pieces together right side in, making sure all the end meet correctly. Pin and sew them together to make your diy fashion top start to take shape.

021415 300x225 DIY Fashion Cute Dress With Circle Skirt

With the Right side still facing in sew the skirt opening together with its right side facing in as well. Cut off all excess fabric that needs to be removed. Reverse the garment and your cute DIY Fashion dress will look just about finished. For the Arm and neck you could just hem, or use bias tape (witch will be explained in a future post) to give it a cleaner look.

Well i hope you enjoy making this DIY project. Experiment with it from there by adding a cute bow around the waist or a bow for your hair with the same fabric. Have fun and stay tuned for our next project.
